Asia Society: Lunch for Ban Ki-moon + Jim Yong Kim

In her capacity of SDG advocate for the UN, Queen Mathilde granted an audience to the Chairman of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim at the royal palace in Brussels.



And together with King Philippe she hosted a lunch at the royal palace in Brussels for UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon and his wife.



The lunch marked the closure of the Brussels-Asia Society Dialogue on Forging a Shared Future.

King Philippe & Queen Mathilde hosted a dinner at the castle of Laeken for the participants in the Brussels-Asia Society Dialogue on Forging a Shared Future.


This two day conference is organized by the royal palace and the US based think tank "Asia Society" to strengthen ties with the Asian continent.

Emile Verhaeren

King Philippe & Queen Mathilde visited Sint-Amands to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of poet Emile Verhaeren.




Hundreds of people had come to see the Royal Couple.







Lindsay Edwards acted as lady-in-waiting.


Philippe & Mathilde visited Verhaeren's grave on the banks of the river Scheldt before being escorted to the Emile Verhaeren Museum where they visited the exhibition "Emile Verhaeren, a European Poet".

Queen Elisabeth Competition 2016: Piano

As patron of the International Queen Elisabeth Competition, Queen Mathilde was present at various performances of this illustrious musical event. The 2016 edition was dedicated to piano.

Queen Mathilde handed out the awards to the laureates of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for piano 2016, at the royal music chapel in Argenteuil.


Inside the Music Chapel, Mathilde talked to the musicians and their Belgian host families.








The actual award ceremony took place in a tent outside.
