Passchendale 1917 commemorations: day 2

In the company of the prince of Wales and the duke and duchess of Cambridge, King Philippe and queen Mathilde visited Tyne Cot Cemetary and the 'Dug Out' trench under the church of Zonnebeke, as part of the commemoration of the centenary of the Battle of Passchendale.


















They also attended the official opening of the "British Memorial Garden" in Zonnebeke.


The day ended with a visit to the exhibition "Passchendaele Memorial Garden" where the royal guests met descendants of WWI victims.

King Philippe and queen Mathilde joined the duke and duchess of Cambridge to attend the Last Post at the Menin Gate in Ypres.


Kate wore a  hat with a white feather, such an odd choice for this occasion.


Clotilde Boël acted as lady-in-waiting.







Then they watched a BBC spectacle commemorating the centenary of the battle of Passchendaele - als known as the third battle of Ypres, at Ypres' Grand Place.




Afterards they visited the In Flanders Fields Museum where they met descendants of WWI veterans.
