Queen Elisabeth Competition 2017: Cello

For the first time in its history the Queen Elisabeth Competition was dedicated to cello.

8 May 2017

Queen Mathilde attended sessions of the first round at Flagey in Brussels.



Laurence de Ghellinck acted as lady-in-waiting.

Mathilde was accompanied by Princess Eléonore (9) and by her lady-in-waiting, Melissa Maas.







12 May 2017

Queen Mathilde attended the semi finals of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for Cello at Flagey in Brussels.

Queen Mathilde went on stage to congratulate the director & musicians of the Orchestre de Wallonie.

The evening concluded with the proclamation of the finalists.



Monday 29 May 2017

Queen Mathilde attended the start of the final sessions of the Queen Elisabeth Competition at Bozar in Brussels. She was accompanied by her husband, King Philippe.

Queen Mathilde was accompanied by Princess Sarvath al-Hassan of Jordan and the Duchess of Gloucester.

At the last session of the finals, the Queen was accompanied by Crown Princess Elisabeth (15).

Around midnight Victor Julien-Larrière was proclaimed as the winner. Mathilde and Elisabeth had watched him perform earlier in the evening.
