As promotor of the SDGs, Queen Mathilde took part in the 3rd European Humanitarian Forum which was held at Flagey in Brussels.
With Janez Lenarcic, European Commissioner for Crisis Management and Belgian Minister for Development, Caroline Gennez.
There was one particular panel discussion Mathilde wanted to attend: 'The hidden cost of conflict: addressing sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo”.
As she promised on her visit to Dr Mukwege's hospital in Congo in 2023, Mathilde uses every occasion she finds to voice the pain and trauma of the Congolese women and children who are victims of sexual violence, used as a weapon of war.
