Queen Mathilde Award 2022

Queen Mathilde has handed out the annual award of the Foundation that bears her name, at the Royal Palace in Brussels.



This year's project call was "I See, Idea, I Do": initiatives by young people who want to tackle problems in their local community. The Mathilde Foundation wants to offer financial and professional support to these initiatives, and guide teenagers on their way to entrepreneurship. 



Winner is Brake-Out, an organization that helps young adults with a mental impairment to find a job.







Before the ceremony took place, Mathilde had a meeting with members of the youth jury at the King Baudouin Foundation.

Elisabeth joins Trade Mission

A large Belgian trade delegation in London, presided by Princess Astrid, visited Oxford today.












The occasion for Crown Princess Elisabeth (20) to join the delegation for a few hours while her aunt, Belgian politicians and the rectors of the Universities of Ghent, Leuven and Antwerp tried to pave the way for students to be able to have academic experiences in Britain again, in spite of Brexit.

As SDG advocate, Queen Mathilde hosted a round table on the local implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.



Mathilde also had another activity. Together with her husband, she granted an audience to departing director of the King Baudouin Foundation, Luc Tayart de Borms.

State Visit #11: Greece

King Philippe & Queen Mathilde are on a three-day state visit to Greece from 2 to 4 May 2022, at the invitation of President Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

10:00 Departure from Melsbroek military airport.












14:00 Arrival at Athens airport.













The King & Queen are taken to Hotel Grande Bretagne, where they are staying for the duration of the visit.



15:00 Wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.




15:10 Official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Mansion by President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and her partner.








16:00 Welcome by Greek Prime Minister, Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion, followed by a private meeting.









16:50 Visit to Smile of the Child community center, an organization that has close ties with Belgian Child Focus - of which Queen Mathilde is Honorary President.


Via an interpreter Mathilde talks to the children: "Before I married my husband I was a speech therapist and a psychologist. I worked a lot with children, like children who have dyslexia ..." 

"Do you always have a bodyguard? M: "If I'm escorted? I'm always accompanied. I call them my guardian angels". 

"I have two boys who are mad about football. I'm also interested in sports. I play tennis, I love to cycle and I walk a lot, all the time really."
