Belgian Cats

Queen Mathilde had a meeting with the Belgian Cats, the female Belgian basketball team that will take part in the European Championships and the Tokyo Olympics. 

The meeting took place at sports campus Lange Munte in Kortrijk. Mathilde was asked to take a few shots, which turned out to be a success! 

Mathilde told the Belgian Cats it would be too difficult to get to Tokyo because of the pandemic that's still raging, but that she and her family will be following all their matches on TV.

Tunisian President Kais Saied and his wife, Ichraf Saied were received at the Royal Palace in Brussels by King Philippe & Queen Mathilde.

These photos were published by the Tunisian state. Belgian court had not communicated about Queen Mathilde being present as well.

Corona: Student Nurses

Queen Mathilde visited the VIVES college in Kortrijk. She met various student nurses who helped out on intensive care units during the pandemic.

Flashback: Fabiola's 80th Birthday

3 June 2008

The Belgian royal family participated a mediatized celebration of Queen Fabiola's 80th birthday at Laeken castle. Fabiola's Spanish relatives and her cousin, Princess Marie-Astrid of Luxembourg & Archduke Christian of Austria were also present.

Fabiola was born on 11 June 1928.

Baby Eléonore was 7 weeks old. 

Fabiola wasn't the only one to be celebrated: there were 3 chocolate cakes, as King Albert was about to turn 74 and Princess Astrid 46. It were the children who were allowed to blow out the candles.

In her typical spontaneous style, Fabiola got up to give a warm speech (in French & Dutch). The noise by the clicking of the cameras in the dome however was a bit surreal for this family occasion. 

Centre Hospitalier de l'Ardenne

King Philippe & Queen Mathilde visited the Centre Hospitalier de l'Ardenne in Libramont, where they met children with cerebral palsy and various motor impairments. The hospital site also has its own school.

The King & Queen also talked to persons who suffered from COVID-19 and have been treated at the CHA.
