Voorleesweek 2022

18 November 2022

Queen Mathilde read a story to visually impaired and blind children at Primary School Kasterlinden in Sint-Agatha-Berchem.

It was the school who invited Mathilde for the occasion, by letter. The positive reply was sent back with help the Braille Liga, one of the Queen's patronages.

The book Mathilde read was "A sea of love" by Pieter Gaudesaboos, an award winning picture book about a love story between two boys, albeit a penguin and a bear in this case. It's the first time Mathilde has openly shown support for LGBTQ+.

After the reading session there was a round table with experts on the how and why of reading to visually impaired persons.

Mathilde, who is patron of Voorleesweek, assured the organization they can keep counting on her support.
