Recap: King Baudouin Prize

The King Baudouin Prize for African Development is handed out biannually in Brussels. The laureate receives € 200.000, international exposure and network opportunities. Whereas the prize was first destined to African and Asian recipients, it is now dedicated exclusively to African projects.

2005

The King Boudewijn Prize for Development Cooperation was awarded to former Malian minister and director of the Political and Institutional Expertise Center in Africa, Ousmane Sy.






19 May 2009

The winner was Indonesian radio news agency KBR68H, represented by Isaac Santoro.







24 May 2011

The winner was Congolese gynaecologist Denis Mukwege. Dr Mukwege would also receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018. Doctor Mukwege treats victims of rape and of sexual violence used as a weapon of war.




2013

The King Baudouin Prize went to Bogaletch Gebre, who fights female mutilation in Ethiopia.





2015

Appui au Développement Intégral et à la Solidarité sur les Collines or ADISCO from Burundi.



2017

BarefootLaw from Uganda, Farmerline from Ghana and Kytabu from Kenya.
