70 Years of the Euro Parliament

To mark the 70th anniversary of the European Parliament, King Philippe & Queen Mathilde hosted a reception at the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken for 100 representatives of the Euro Parliament.

King Philippe: "Your hemicycle is a European stage, in which minorities -and in Europe we are all minorities- come together to debate and persuade each other."

Belgium will preside the Council of the EU in 2024.

Private: By Albert's Side

Early in the morning Queen Mathilde and King Philippe visited their father / father-in-law at the Saint-Luc Hospital in Brussels where King Albert II has been hospitalized with signs of dehydration. The former King is 89 years old.

Prince Laurent also visited.

In the evening Philippe returned for a visit with his son Emmanuel (17).

Crown Prince Philippe & Princess Mathilde visited their father(-in-law), King Albert II, at the Clinique St-Jean in Brussels.

Albert had been operated the previous day after he's made a fall at the Castle of Laeken and broken part of his femur (thighbone). He received emergency surgery. 

Flashback: US Trade Mission

Crown Prince Philippe & Princess Mathilde presided a 9 day trade visit to the USA, visiting New York from 22 to 26 June, Washington from 26 to 29 June and Boston from 29 to 30 June. They headed a delegation of 300 business people. They were accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Steven Vanackere and Walloon Minsiter of Economy, Jean-Claude Marcourt.

Princess Mathilde hosted a breakfast meeting with young Belgians residing and working in

New York City at Belgian chain Le Pain Quotidian in Central Park.

Mathilde visited the NY French American Charter School.

In the evening there was a signing ceremony at The Waldorf Astoria.

Princess Mathilde had a breakfast meeting on humanitarian themes at the Pierre Hotel in Manhattan.

Then she made a visit to the Tapestry Conservation Department of the Metropolitan Museum.

... and to the synagogue of New York.

In the evening Mathilde & Philippe attended a concert at the Flanders House in New York.

Princess Mathilde visited the Jeanne Jugan Residence of the Order of the Little Sisters of the Poor in Washington.

She also attended a reading to children in the Whittal Pavilion at the Library of Congress, before making a tour of the Library of Congress with Philippe.
