Docu: "Les vingt ans d'une future reine"

22 October 2021

A week after RTL TVi aired a special about Crown Princess Elisabeth's 20th birthday, RTBF did the same with a 2 hour special on Elisabeth.

It was a beautiful portrait that tried to depict the princess's personality.

Elisabeth's dance teacher Kathleen Schroyens was interviewed.

The princess joined the children's modern dance class of the August De Boeck art academy in Asse. Twice weekly Elisabeth attended the classes which made for a weekly 5 hour practice. At the end of the season the group performed at the local cultural centre for an audience of 350 to 500 people.

Some images of Elisabeth at the performances were shared.

The teacher spoke very endearingly of her former pupil. Elisabeth was with the dance group from the age of 5 until she was 16 and left Belgium to continue her studies in Wales.

Kathleen Schroyens: "Mathilde told me it was Elisabeth's own wish to follow dance classes. All the other girls arrived with their mothers or grandmothers on the first day, but Elisabeth was on her own, accompanied by a chauffeur. She was a sweet little thing, carrying her bag. She was very brave and loved dancing. It's also interesting for the princess to be aware of the way she moves her body and to perform in front of an audience. Elisabeth was really motivated to learn the moves. She's very gracious, you can tell when you see her walk."

There was an interview with Pierre Charriot, Queen Paola's water colour teacher. He also gave classes to Paola's grandchildren. Elisabeth once invited her friends to a party where they all went painting. Afterwards she sent her teacher a thank you letter.
