Docu: "Les vingt ans de la Princesse Elisabeth"

RTL TVi aired a Place Royale documentary on Crown Princess Elisabeth who will turn twenty next week.

Apart from archive footage taken from previous documentaries, there were also some interesting new snippets.

Like an interview with Pascale del Marmol, who used to be Elisabeth's piano teacher.

She described her pupil as having a proper sense of music. Even though the Princess has stopped taking classes since she left Belgium for Wales at the age of 16, the first part of her life where she actively played the piano will go on to serve her in later life. Should she preside the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition later then her profound understanding of music will be a gift.

Pascale del Marmol calls Elisabeth very kind, balanced, always good at making anyone in her company feel at ease and yet with a clear mind of her own, very decisive.

An anecdote. When del Marmol was on the committee to prepare a chamber music festival for young musicians, Elisabeth insisted she'd invite an American female musician that she'd recently met. Only she'd presented herself as "Elisabeth" and not as Princess of Belgium. She didn't want the American girl to find out who she really was. In the end they succeeded and the American pianist took part in the Festival.

There was also the testimony of sisters Régine and Bernadette of the Petites Soeurs des Pauvres who run a care home for the elderly in Brussels, the Home St Joseph, where Elisabeth worked as a volunteer, preparing sandwiches for the residents. She was known there as "Lisa" so she could remain anonymous ... even though there were remarks that this smiling girl looked a lot like Princess Elisabeth, and what were these 007 guys doing following her around?
