Flashback: Cancer & Pregnancy

Queen Mathilde attended an international conference where Professor Frédéric Amant presented an update on ten years of research into cancer and pregnancy. 

Amant and his team demonstrated that chemotherapy has no adverse effects on the fetus, thanks to the protection provided by the placenta. There is also no impact on the children's development: the researchers found that they thrived just as well as their peers. New doctoral research also confirmed that the treatment is just as effective for pregnant women as for non-pregnant women.
