Two days before the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes will be commemorated, King Philippe & Queen Mathilde met American veterans who took part in the decisive offensive which led to the liberation of Belgium in 1944.
George, Joseph, John and Fred were all born in 1925. They were 19 when they enlisted to help free Europe and ended up in Bastogne, the Belgian town where Mathilde grew up many years later.
The meeting took place at the castle of Laeken.
Two days before the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Their Majesties the King and Queen were visited in Laeken by four American veterans who took part in this decisive episode of WWII.
