This morning, Queen Mathilde made a visit to the exhibition "Margaretha. The Emperor's daughter beteen power and image", on the life & times of Margaret of Parma, daughter of emperor Charles V and his servant Johanna Van der Gheynst, in her hometown of Oudenaarde.
Margaret of Parma (1522–1586) was governor of the Netherlands during a turbulent time at the beginning of the Eighty Years’ War.
Mathilde stayed for an hour. After the tour she asked to visit the restauration workshop, which hadn't been planned.
In the evening the Royal Couple had 18 secondary school heads over for dinner at the Castle of Laeken.
