King Philippe & Queen Mathilde started their visit at recycling company Ravago in Arendonk.

Second stop was Monnikenheide-Spectrum in Zoersel, who offer a broad array of specialist care and support to mentally handicapped persons and their family. 

With Wivina Demeester, one of the founders of Monnikenheide.

Finally the Royal Couple took the time to greet the population outside the Chapel in Zoersel where a reception was held in their honour.

Queen Camilla's Reception

Queen Camilla of the United Kingom hosted a 'violence against women and girls' reception at Buckingham Palace at which Queen Mathilde, Queen Rania of Jordan, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, the Countess of Wessex and Ukranian First Lady Olena Zelenska were present.

Incoming State Visit #8: Switzerland

The President of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis and his wife, Paola Rodoni made a two day state visit to Belgium.

In the afternoon both couples visited the Musical Instruments Museum MIM in Brussels.

They were treated to a mini recital by Rutger Mathys and Elias D'Hooghe.

Mathilde looked fabulous at the state dinner in the evening, held at Laeken castle.

King Philippe: "Comme beaucoup de Belges, ma famille aussi a succombé aux charmes de votre pays. En 1898, le Prince Philippe, Comte de Flandre, acquit la Villa Haslihorn, une résidence à Horw. Pendant ses séjours là-bas, son épouse, Marie de Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, avait pris l’habitude de dessiner et peindre les paysages des bords du lac des Quatre-Cantons. Et mon bisaïeul, le Roi Albert Ier, prenait le Haslihorn volontiers comme point de départ pour ses randonnées en alpinisme, qu’il pratiquait incognito mais passionnément. "

"Nos deux pays sont aussi liés par des évènements tragiques. Le décès de ma grand-mère, la Reine Astrid, en 1935 à Küssnacht. Mais aussi le terrible accident du bus scolaire à Sierre, en 2012, que nous avons commémoré ensemble, ce printemps."

"La famille Piccard, avec ses trois générations d’inventeurs et explorateurs, personnifie parfaitement l'esprit de découverte et de renouveau. Ses liens avec la Belgique sont très divers : académiques, technologiques et commerciaux. Mais aussi de vraie amitié avec ma famille."

"Je souhaite partager avec vous le souvenir fort que je garde de ma visite, il y a déjà un certain temps, du Musée de la Croix Rouge à Genève. Il y avait là une impressionnante ligne du temps qui reprenait - dans un parallélisme saisissant – les périodes de guerre et de grandes pandémies, illustrant combien les populations éreintées par les conflits pouvaient ensuite succomber à de grands fléaux sanitaires. Cette ligne du temps, je ne l’ai jamais oubliée."
