As patron, Queen Mathilde recorded a video message to kick off the Queen Elisabeth Competition, dedicated to piano this year. Because of the pandemic no audience was allowed in the concert hall. However Mathilde would be present at times.

King Philippe & Queen Mathilde were present at Bozar for the first finale night of the Competition. Because of the corona precautions, only 6 finalists were selected during this edition, instead of the usual 12.
