Queen Elisabeth Competition 2021: Piano

As patron, Queen Mathilde recorded a video message to kick off the Queen Elisabeth Competition, dedicated to piano this year. Because of the pandemic no audience was allowed in the concert hall. However Mathilde would be present at times.

Queen Mathilde was present at Flagey to watch the last of the semi finals. Apart from the jury members she was the only audience in the hall.

King Philippe & Queen Mathilde were present at Bozar for the first finale night of the Competition. Because of the corona precautions, only 6 finalists were selected during this edition, instead of the usual 12.

Queen Mathilde and her private secretary, Machteld Fostier watched the second finale concert at Bozar.

Fourth finale concert at Bozar. Mathilde was again accompanied by Machteld Fostier.

Queen Mathilde attended the fifth finale concert.

Queen Mathilde was present for the sixth and final concert of the Competition.

The same evening the winner was announced: French Jonathan Fournel.

Queen Mathilde attended the award ceremony at the Music Chapel Reine Elisabeth in Waterloo.

Queen Mathilde & King Philippe were accompanied by former King Albert II & former Queen Paola, for the closing concert of the Competition at Bozar.
