Voorleesweek 2019
19 November 2019
Queen Mathilde participated in the Reading Aloud Week by visiting public library De Poort in Berchem, Antwerp.
This year's theme is "reading rituals", with special attention for young children who have experienced illness and death in the family. Mathilde read to a select audience of brothers & sisters of a child with special needs or a severe illness/disability. The library was closed to other visitors for the duration of the visit.
After having read an excerpt of Astrid Lindgren's "The Brothers Lionheart", the Queen took part in a debate with experts and young children who've had to take up a care role in their family at a very young age.
