Queen Mathilde visited the 'Vlaamse Instelling voor Technologisch Onderzoek' (VITO) in Mol, as part of the preparation for future trade visits abroad.
VITO is a research center that works with companies and governments to develop solutions to climate problems.
The Queen was introduced to carbstone technology, among other things. This allows building materials to be made from industrial waste without using traditional cement. At the same time, CO₂ is stored in the materials. The Belgian company BESIX used this technology in the construction of the ARAMCO stadium in Damman, Saudi Arabia.
