In June 2026 Princess Eléonore (18) made her first public appearance wearing a tiara. To my great delight it's a tiara that's new to the Belgian royal family!
On 19 November 2019 it was sold at the Italian auction house Il Ponte for 26.000 EUR. The tiara consists of rose cut diamonds, with a detachable central clover that can be worn as a brooch.
Court confirmed it had been an 18th birthday gift to Eléonore from her parents. Just like her older sister, Princess Elisabeth had received a diamond diadem for her majority.
Its design and setting are reminiscent of another tiara linked to the Belgian royal family, also from the Coosemans workshop: the diamond tiara Princess Joséphine Charlotte received from the Belgian Société Générale Bank upon her marriage to Prince Jean of Luxembourg in 1953.
The tiara is still in the Luxembourg royal family today, despite Henri & Maria Teresa's attempt to sell it (among many other of Joséphine Charlotte's private jewels) at Sotheby's in 2006. This decision was met with such indignation in Luxembourg that it was withdrawn from the sale.
Just like Eléonore's tiara, its central part can be removed and worn as a brooch. JC's tiara was set with 854 brilliant cut Congolese diamonds (46,42 cts) with a central 8 ct brilliant.
