As UNAIDS representative, Princess Mathilde attended a seminar at Belgian Parliament on the battle against AIDS. Another guest of honour was former executive director of UNAIDS, Peter Piot.

Interview: Place Royale

On Sunday 2 December 2018, a one-off of the show Place Royale was aired on RTL TVI, dedicated to the French state visit to Belgium.

For the first time, Queen Mathilde gave extensive background information on camera, talking about the historic Belgo-French relations and showing royal souvenirs at the Royal Palace. Belgium's first Queen, Louise, was a daughter of the French King Louis-Philippe.

More from Laos

In February 2017 queen Mathilde undertook a journey to Laos as UNICEF and UN representative to focus on malnutrition and education for girls.

During the 4 days she spent in the country, she also had the chance to meet some of the Belgians who are living in Laos. These images, where she's joined by ambassador Philippe Kridelka, were made during that informal meeting in Vientiane.

WWI Commemorations in Berlin

King Philippe & Queen Mathilde spent a day in Berlin at the invitation of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to commemorate the end of the First World War, 100 years ago.

The king & queen were welcomed at Schloss Bellevue by the president and his wife.

In the afternoon they visited the Rotes Rathaus city hall and attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Neue Wache monument.

Philippe and Mathilde visited the Deutsches Historisches Museum and the Käthe Kollwitz Museum.

The visit ended at the Berliner Philharmonic with a rendition of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis conducted by Belgian Jan Caeyers.

The king & queen were joined by former President Joachim Gauck and his wife Daniela Schadt with whom they seem to have established a friendship.

Royal Warrant Holders 2018

King  Philippe & Queen Mathilde hosted a reception for the new royal warrant holders.

Four new companies have been added to the list, which now contains 120 warrant holders:

- Champagne Vranken–Pommery, owned by Paul-François Vranken.

- Jewelry and watches Cosyns owned by Emmanuel Cosyns.

- Hand painted glasses and porcelain by Caroline de Pierpont.
