King Philippe & Queen Mathilde granted an audience to UN secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon and his wife at the royal palace in Brussels.

Private: shopping for the children

Two of the current royal warrant holders are shops where Mathilde regularly buys items for her children. Both of them are Belgian family businesses.


"La Buissonnière" is a classic BCBG clothes brand for children. Every season a special preview is held for the royal children at the shop in Wavre. Their nanny and Mathilde's secretary make a selection of clothes that the children try on at home. Afterwards Mathilde orders the sizes and colours.

"Serneels" is a traditional style toy shop in Brussels. Among its customers are the Belgian royal family, grand duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg and queen Rania of Jordan. When picking board games for her children, queen Mathilde always looks for an educational element, says director Brigitte Serneels. Nowadays the queen is often accompanied by her eldest daughter, crown princess Elisabeth who advises Mathilde on what to buy.

Queen Mathilde was present at the University Hospital of Antwerp (UZA) in Edegem for the inauguration of its new mother and child unit that carries the name "Koningin Mathilde Moeder en Kindcentrum".

The unit combines gynecology, neonatal and pediatric care.

Expo "Vormidable"

Queen Mathilde joined Queen Maxima of the Netherlands for the opening of the open air exhibition "Vormidable" in The Hague, Holland.

The exhibition showed contemporary Flemish sculpture.

Lindsay Edwards acted as Mathilde's lady-in-waiting.

Prior to the opening, Queen Mathilde visited the Belgian cultural residence in The Hague where she had lunch with Belgian artists who work in Holland.

She also visited the residence's expo on Belgian art from the province of Liège.
