Jewels: The Tunesian Parure

King Baudouin gave his wife, queen Fabiola, a jewellery set consisting of earrings, a bracelet and a necklace when they travelled through Tunesia.

The jewels contain diamonds, rubies and green cabochon cut gemstones. These green stones could be emeralds, tanzanites, tourmalines or agates. 

In 2012 princess Mathilde was first seen wearing the earrings of the parure, at the enthronement party of king Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.

In 2015 she wore the earrings and a matching bracelet during a state visit to Poland.

It is not the same as Fabiola's.

King Philippe and one of his daughters were spotted having dinner at "Le moulin de la Galette" in Bayeux (Calvados), France. They were seated in a more private area of the restaurant-crêperie.

Philippe & Mathilde stayed close to home for their holidays. A few days later King Philippe was called back to Brussels when the everlasting government formations had stranded once again.

Borrowed Jewellery: Manalys Earrings & Necklace

On 31 May 2011, Mathilde's younger sister Countess Hélène d'Udekem d'Acoz wore a pair of diamond and pearl earrings when she married Baron Nicolas Janssen at La Hulpe.

On 2 July 2011 Princess Mathilde wore the same earrings to the wedding ball of Prince Albert II of Monaco & Charlene Wittstock. She paired them with a matching necklace.

Both sisters wore pieces from the "Feuille" set, designed by Brussels jeweller Manalys.

So, could these be Hélène's personal jewellery?

Borrowed Jewellery: Diamond Rose Brooch

A few years ago princess Mathilde was seen wearing a diamond rose brooch ...

At the 60th birthday of the prince of Wales in London (2008):

And at the wedding of prince William of Wales and Catherine Middleton in London (2011):

However this diamond brooch does not belong to Mathilde. It's a loan from Belgian jeweller Wolfers.

The brooch is described as a "trembling brooch", i.e. with some of the diamonds mounted on little springs. They move slightly with the movements of the person, which multiplicates the glittering effect.

Borrowed Jewellery: Parure for Dutch Celebrations

At Crown Prince Willem-Alexander's 40th birthday party in 2007, Princess Mathilde wore an impressive new set of earrings, a necklace and a brooch.

None of these jewels belong to her personally and she hasn't been seen wearing them since.

 

Borrowed Jewellery: Vigne Necklace

At the wedding of crown princess Victoria of Sweden and Daniel Westling, princess Mathilde wore a white gold necklace with pear shaped diamonds: the "Vigne" necklace of Brussels jeweller Leysen.

This piece was borrowed for the occasion and does not belong to Mathilde.

Borrowed Jewellery: Diamond and Pearl Earrings

Princess Mathilde wore these beautiful earrings to a new year's reception (January 2006) and to the christening of her goddaughter, princess Alexia of the Netherlands (December 2005).

Borrowed Jewellery: Diamond Bird Brooch

This diamond brooch in the shape of a humming-bird was worn by Mathilde when she visited the Antwerp diamond stock exchange in 2004.

She wore it for a second time in February 2005, at a reception offered by the Greek president on state visit in Belgium.

Borrowed Jewellery: Ruby Earrings

These beautiful diamond and ruby earrings were only seen once on princess Mathilde, at the Polish state visit to Belgium in 2004. It's safe to assume they were lent to her by a jeweller's.

Wedding: Elisabeth d'Udekem & Alfonso Pallavicini

Mathilde's sister, Countess Elisabeth d'Udekem d'Acoz (29) married Marquis Alfonso Pallavicini (42) at the Saint-Pierre parish church of her home town, Bastogne.

Elisabeth arrived with her father, Count Patrick d'Udekem d'Acoz.

The bride wore a d'Udekem family veil that dates from the mid 19th century. It was restored for the wedding. 

Witnesses at the religious ceremony were: Count Charles-Henri d'Udekem d'Acoz, Countess Honorine d’Ursel, Marquis Edouardo Pallavicini, Prince Hugo von Liechtenstein, Hervé Thibaut de Maisières and Alexandra Olsufief.

The mass was in French, Italian and German.

Elisabeth wore an ancient diamond tiara. Her wedding gown was by Natan.
