Fashion Flashback: Favourites of 2019

Favourite Coat of 2019

An oldie but goldie, created by Gérald Watelet in 2003 this remains one of my favourite coats for Mathilde who always looks good with a touch of fur.

I love the sixties flare of this new pink Armani coat.

Favourite Daywear of 2019

A red trouser suit by Natan, accompanied by a blush Dior handbag. Mathilde wore this combo to a new year's reception at the royal palace, and for a visit to a hospital.

I like the cut and model of this everyday work outfit. A nice combo of Natan trousers, pumps and jacket with a splash of colour to liven up a dull winter's day.

When she visited farms in Limburg Mathilde put on this beige shirt dress with blue flowers. Perfect choice for this kind of visit.

A summery RED Valentino dress for a walk in the park on the National Day.

For a more serious occasion, like a round table on poverty, a clean cut navy suit & ditto white blouse by Armani are a winning choice.

Elegant Dries Van Noten dress for the state visit to Luxembourg.

This new lace dress by Caroline Herrera was brought out of the closet various times in 2019. With reason, it's both chic and girly.

Another Carolina Herrera creation that flatters Mathilde, and that makes me hope the brand is a new favourite... The queen wore it at a Christmas visit to a shelter, and earlier in the year at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

This beautifully cut white Natan dress was a fitting choice for the interview Mathilde & Philippe gave for their 20th wedding anniversary.

Professional yet also fun, feminine & flattering: a Natan outfit to address EU about children's rights.

Favourite cocktail outfit of 2019

To present her new year's greetings to the EU & NATO reps, Mathilde went for a Dries Van Noten print combined with silver Natan pumps. Classy and chic.

Worn at a reception in Mozambique, this Natan ensemble works wonders with its vibrant colours.

A delicate & beautiful Armani gown for Mathilde's much loved patronage, the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition.

Recently, Mathilde discovered the brand Erdem. A good thing, as this new dress prooves! The queen wore it to host a lucheon for the jury members of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for Violin, and later also at the opening of an exhibition.

The etnic print in this Esmerald Ammoun dress is a subtle nod to the event it's worn for: the King Baudouin Award for African Development. The model is such a win for Mathilde's shape.

This Erdem dress was Mathilde's choice for a classical concert on the eve of the National Day. The romantic boho feel of this dress really suits her and gives a bit of panache to a very traditional activity.

Maybe the best moment of 2019 - fashionwise - was saved till last: I'm a big fan of this Dries Van Noten floor length gown Mathilde wore at the Christmas concert at the royal palace.

Favourite Accessory of 2019

I like the romantic feel of these delicate earrings.

Mathilde has a substantial collection of gold (coloured) earrings. A new addition are these flattering lotus earrings by Christine Bekaert.

A fun Armani handbag to give a classic dress some edge.

Chic pink "Borgonuovo 11" handbag by Armani.

This year we saw Mathilde using reading glasses for the first time. Oliver Peoples for this first model.

Favouite bespoke jewellery of 2019

Queen Fabiola's aquamarine earrings made a resurgence this year, albeit in a completely new setting, probably by Leysen Jewellers. The design is a bit too delicate for my taste, but glad to see these lovely stones are back!

In July the royal couple made an official visit to 2 German regions. Reason for Mathilde to use this show stopper for a first time: a gorgeous diamond & sapphire brooch in the shape of a dragonfly. The 1920s piece was bought at auction.

Favourite Gala of 2019

A dazzle of a dress, made especially for the queen by Armani when she paid a state visit to Luxembourg. BIG LOVE.

For the enthronement of emperor Naruhito of Japan Armani made a gown that matched the occasion. Regal, elegant, impressive - all that in baby pink!
