TV: Merci voor de Muziek

In 2019 VRT aired a human interest series about music. Each episode also featured a short part where children visited Queen Mathilde at the royal palace, to discuss and perform music.

The program was presented by Bart Peeters and Nora Gharib.

First episode:

Stella (8) came to play the harp for Queen Mathilde at the royal palace.

In a short interview with Bart Peeters, Mathilde said that music is essential in her personal life. Also in raising her children, who all play one or various instruments. New photos were shown of Elisabeth & Gabriel at the piano, Emmanuel playing saxophone and Eléonore with her violin.



Mathilde added that King Philippe has also taken up piano lessons.

Second episode: 

Queen Mathilde met young cellist Yuri (13) at the royal palace. They talked about the soothing effect making music has when Yuri's autism causes him stress.




Third episode:

Queen Mathilde received Victor at the royal palace for a short but very animated concert. Victor (8) who is blind and plays the congas demanded an extra applause and an improvised laugh track when he was finished!



Fourth episode: 

Dalbert, a young rapper with Ghanese roots completely charmed the Queen with his performance!




Fifth episode:

Queen Mathilde met Sofia at the royal palace. Sofia played the piano for HRH.


Mathilde revealed that king Philippe started playing the piano when he was 50. Even though he's a mature student he plays it well and he makes his own compositions.



Crown princess Elisabeth & Prince Gabriel learned to play from a very early age, instigated by their mother who started learing piano when she was 23.




Sixth episode:

Rosele & Younes came to sing for Mathilde. King Philippe made a surprise appearance.





Final episode:

All the young musicians & singers who had visited the Queen at the royal palace came together for a final concert at the Théâtre royal des galeries in Brussels.
