Queen Mathilde handed out the Francqui Award to KUL Professor Stefaan Vaes at the Palais des Académies in Brussels.
When talking to the winner's daughters, Mathilde said one of them was as old as her son Gabriel (11) who will start in the first year of secondary school, studying Latin next September.
Laurence de Ghellinck acted as lady-in-waiting.
