Queen Elisabeth Competition 2015: Violin

As patron of the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition dedicated to violin (this year), Queen Mathilde was present at most concerts.

The first round took place at Flagey.

7 May 2015

Queen Mathilde took her youngest daughter, Princess Eléonore (7) along. Eléonore also plays the violin.






11 May 2015

Start of the semi finals. Mathilde watched Tobias Feldmann and William Ching-Yi Wei play.




12 May 2015

Mathilde and her youngest son, Prince Emmanuel (9) watched Mohri Fumika and Kenneth Renshaw play.



Clotilde Boël acted as lady-in-waiting.


13 May 2015

Queen Mathilde watched Wang Xiao and Yang Yoon play.




Clotilde Boël acted as lady-in-waiting.


Mathilde told a group of school children who had come to see the concert that her own daughter, Princess Eléonore had started playing the violin from the age of four.



16 May 2015

Queen Mathilde attended the last semi finals and the proclamation of the finalists.


She was accompanied by Laurence de Ghellinck.

Start of the finals. Queen Mathilde & King Philippe watched William Ching-Yi Wei and Tobias Feldmann play. Lindsay Edwards accompanied them as lady-in-waiting.





26 May 2015

Queen Mathilde & King Philippe hosted a lunch for the jury members at the royal palace in Brussels.






In the evening Queen Mathilde and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg watched Thomas Reif and Mohri Fumika play.
They were accompanied by lady-in-waiting Melissa Maas.

Queen Mathilde and Crown Princess Elisabeth (13) watched Xiao Wang and William Hagen play.
Patricia Vlerick accompanied them as lady-in-waiting.










30 May 2015

Queen Mathilde and Baroness Françoise Tulkens watched Lim Ji Youn and Stephen Waarts play on the final night of the Competition.


Françoise Tulkens is an international professor in human rights and a judge. She's a member of the board of the King Baudouin Foundation. She's known Mathilde since her first steps as a Princess.


They were accompanied by Clothilde Boël.




At the end of the evening the winner was proclaimed: Lim Ji Youn. 




2 June 2015

Queen Mathilde handed out the awards to the laureates at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Argenteuil.








Together with lady-in-waiting Patricia Vlerick, the Queen visited the new de Launoit wing of the music chapel.

Queen Mathilde and Princess Margaretha of Luxembourg attended the laureate concerts of Mohri Fumika, Stephen Waarts and Tobias Feldmann at Bozar in Brussels.


11 June 2015

Queen Mathilde & King Philippe attended the final concert by the first laureates of the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition for violin at Bozar in Brussels.




They were accompanied by Laurence de Ghellinck who acted as the Queen's lady-in-waiting.
